05 maj SILENCING THE GUNS – PARLIAMENTARY ACTION PLAN FOR AFRICA AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH, FRENCH, PORTUGUESE AND ARABIC
On October 3-4 last year, the Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons realised its second qualitative and successful regional seminar in cooperation with the Pan-African Parliament. Indeed, the conclusions are still relevant as the African Union’s theme of this year 2020 is “Silencing the Guns- creating conducive conditions for Africa’s development”.
The Parliamentary Action Plan adopted in the regional seminar in 2018, outlining key recommendations and prioritised actions towards the universalisation and implementation of the 2030 Agenda, Arms Trade Treaty and the United Nations Programme of Action on Small Arms, was revised and adopted in its amended version by the participating parliamentarians from the region concluding this second seminar.
Parliamentarians in Africa are vital in preventing and reducing Small Arms and Light Weapons related violence in view of their legislative, oversight and awareness-raising functions for national implementation of international arms control instruments.
