02 mar DO YOU WANT TO LEARN ABOUT THE FORUM’S STRATEGIC PRIORITIES FOR 2023-2026? NEW STRATEGIC PLAN NOW AVAILABLE!
The Board of the Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons (the Forum) has recently decided on the Forum’s new Strategic Plan for 2023-2026, to guide the work of the organisation in the upcoming years. The new Strategic Plan maintains the commitments of the previous Strategic Plan, as expressed in the overall vision of the Forum to contribute to the achievement of more peaceful and sustainably developed societies, while integrating new topical elements, such as the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agenda and the role of young parliamentarians. To maximise the political impact of the Forum, the Strategic Plan 2023-2026 outlines the following strategic priorities, identified based on recent international policy development on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW)-related violence and to address the needs of the Forum and its Members;
- The role of parliamentarians in relation to the fulfilment of the United Nations Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects (UN PoA), the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), the United Nations Secretary General’s Disarmament Agenda “Securing our Common Future: An Agenda for Disarmament”, the Protocol against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, their Parts and Components and Ammunition (Firearms Protocol) and the 2030 Agenda, specifically Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16.4 and linking to SDG 5 and SDG 17.
- Continued strengthening of the gender equality perspective and the youth perspective of the Forum organisationally and thematically.
- Continued consolidation of the financial and operational sustainability of the Forum.
