17 okt Welcome with candidate nominations to the international Board of the Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons.
Dear Members and Friends of the Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons (PFSALW),
The term of the current Board of PFSALW is coming to an end, and a new Board is set to be elected at the coming PFSALW General Assembly in mid-December. On behalf of the Election Committee, the Secretariat of PFSALW is currently preparing the process of the upcoming election of the international Board of the organisation, including by reaching out to Members of Parliament and relevant civil society/international/research organisations globally to invite to nominate parliamentarians to be considered as candidates to the Board.
PFSALW is the only membership-based organisation gathering parliamentarians globally across party-political lines, specifically related to the reduction and prevention of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW)-related violence. It is an organisation constituted by parliamentarians, for parliamentarians working for human security, sustainable development and peace. The overall vision is to contribute to the achievement of more peaceful and sustainably developed societies by means of the mission of enhancing parliamentary action for the prevention and reduction of SALW-related violence through the implementation and universalisation of relevant international frameworks, as to safeguard human security for the benefit of the right-holders, the entire population. For more information, please find key documents such as the Forum’s Strategic Plan 2023-2026, Statues and Regulations, Twentieth Anniversary Publication (2002-2022) and our latest Policy Statement on Preventing Violence Against Parliamentarians in the Global Context of Democratic Backsliding. To learn more about our work, welcome to visit our website, and interact and follow us on Facebook & Twitter & LinkedIn.
The Board is the steering organ of PFSALW having the over-all responsibility of the strategic, organisational and financial development of the organisation. Being the entity with final responsibility of the organisation, the Board monitors the development of the results and activities, the over-all effective financial and operational function and holds employers’ responsibility for the personnel contracted at the Secretariat.
Please find more information regarding the assignment in the Terms of Reference for Board members. With the present message you are kindly invited to:
- Nominate yourself as a Member of Parliament to stand as candidate to the coming Board Election of PFSALW, or
- Nominate another person, a Member of Parliament, that you assess would be apt as a Board member of PFSALW.
The nomination will remain anonymous and will be integrated to the regular recruitment process, where the Election Committee, based on an assessment process, plans to approach Members of Parliament nominated in a neutral and constructive manner to confirm interest to stand as candidate. Your nominations would be much appreciated until the 12 November 2023 at the latest, by completing the virtual Nomination Questionnaire.
On behalf of the Election Committee of PFSALW, many thanks for your time and kind consideration. The Secretariat remains at your disposal for any complementary enquiries you may have regarding this message, kindly direct any correspondence to the Secretary General Ms. Karin Olofsson at the following e-mail address: olofsson@parlforum.org.
