16 okt NOW AVAILABLE –> REPORT FROM PFSALW’S SIDE EVENT AT THE NINTH CONFERENCE OF STATES PARTIES (CSP9) TO THE ARMS TRADE TREATY (ATT).
The Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons (PFSALW) would like to extend its sincere gratitude to all joining us for the side event on August 24, 2023 titled “Reducing threats to international security: Mobilising parliamentarians from Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean and Middle East to strengthen global parliamentary action for enhanced universalisation and implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty”. The side event took place in-person in Geneva, Switzerland at the side-lines of the Ninth Conference of States Parties (CSP9) to the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). A special thank you to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Canada for funding the side event and to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden for co-hosting the event.
At the side event, parliamentary recommendations to enhance universalisation and implementation of the ATT linking to the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) perspective, identified by the Forum’s members in Asia, Middle East and North Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean were presented, including the importance of:
- Within legislation; Promote the comparative analysis of free trade agreements to identify their coherence with the provisions of the ATT regarding sanctions for the illicit flow of SALW.
- Within oversight: Initiate dialogue with the Government to request update on status regarding pending ATT ratification process and present recommendations to advance the process.
- Within awareness raising: Join forces with young people in the implementation of the ATT and UNSCR 1325 at the national, regional and international level.
