26 jun WELCOME TO JOIN THE CAMPAIGN ACTION STARTING TODAY –> GLOBAL WEEK OF ACTION AGAINST GUN VIOLENCE
Today marks the start of the global campaign action “Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence” initiated by the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA), in which the Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons (PFSALW) collaborates.
The theme of the campaign action this year, which is taking place until 2 July 2023, is “Promoting Dialogue and a Culture of Peace: Taking Action to End Gun Proliferation and Violence”. Its goal is to raise awareness on the widespread killing, destruction of livelihoods and further threats of violence arising from the illicit proliferation and misuse of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW), and to urge States to fulfil their promise in the United Nations Programme of Action to Prevent Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All its Aspects (UN PoA) to promote a Culture of Peace.
IANSA, in collaboration with PFSALW, has elaborated an “Action Circular for Engaging with Parliamentarians and Civil Society” specifically encouraging civil society to engage with parliamentarians during the campaign in preventing illicit proliferation and misuse of SALW. With the campaign, IANSA is inviting relevant stakeholders, including parliamentarians and members of civil society to join efforts in solidarity. Moreover, it constitutes an opportunity to start mobilising in the lead up to the Fourth Review Conference on the UN PoA (RevCon4) which is set to take place on 17-28 June 2024.
