UPCOMING REGIONAL SEMINAR FOR LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN: PARLIAMENTARY ACTION TO PREVENT AND REDUCE UNCONTROLLED SMALL ARMS AND LIGHT WEAPONS

UPCOMING REGIONAL SEMINAR FOR LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN: PARLIAMENTARY ACTION TO PREVENT AND REDUCE UNCONTROLLED SMALL ARMS AND LIGHT WEAPONS

Between 30th of June and the 1st of July, the Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons (the Forum) is hosting a regional seminar for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) in collaboration with Parlamento Latinoamericano y Caribeño (PARLATINO) in Panama City, Panama.

The seminar will focus on strengthening parliamentary action for the universalisation and implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), linking to the Women Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda. The seminar is part of the Forum’s project entitled “Reducing threats to international security: Mobilising parliamentarians from Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean and Middle East to strengthen global parliamentary action for enhanced universalisation and implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty”. It is financed by the generous support of Canada’s Foreign Policy—Global Affairs Canada. The conclusions are planned to be presented at a side event at the Ninth Conference of States Parties (CSP9) to the ATT during 21-25 August 2023.

The seminar is targeting parliamentarians from all LAC countries and will also serve to identify parliamentary priorities and recommendations to be condensed into a regional Parliamentary Action Plan for LAC, for the first time ever focusing on the ATT and WPS specifically.
