04 jul A WARM THANK YOU TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE REGIONAL SEMINAR FOR AFRICA ON JUNE 21-22 IN YAOUNDÉ, CAMEROON
The Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons (PFSALW) would like to extend its sincere gratitude to all participants who joined us at the regional seminar for Africa on June 21-22 in Yaoundé Cameroon, co-hosted with the National Assembly of Cameroon. Warm gratitude in particular to all honourable parliamentarians and panellists who shared their vital experiences and expertise, and to the National Assembly for the fruitful collaboration.
PFSALW also would like to thank the United Nations Trust Facility Supporting Cooperation on Arms Regulation Fund (UNSCAR) UNODA for the generous financing of the seminar.
At the regional seminar, updated parliamentary recommendations on actions to take for the implementation of the United Nations Programme of Action on Small Arms and Light Weapons (UN PoA) linking to the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda and the 2030 Agenda were incorporated into a revised regional Parliamentary Action Plan (PAP), which was adopted by the parliamentarians.
The key parliamentary recommendations regarding the revised PAP included:
- Enhance the capacity and understanding of parliamentarians regarding international instruments and tools for prevention of uncontrolled proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW).
- Ensure the establishment of Commissions on SALW, and ensure adequate operation and function of the SALW Commissions, including access for parliamentarians to relevant capacity building efforts.
- Pursue sensitisation on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, SDG 5, UN PoA, and ATT among the population, including the item of peacebuilding in schools.
The revised PAP and the final report summarising the conclusions from the seminar will be available in the near future, follow us here and on twitter @ParlForumSalw to stay tuned!
