17 jun REGIONAL SEMINAR IN AFRICA IS COMING UP NEXT WEEK!
With the objective of enhancing regional and national parliamentary engagement, participation and action for the implementation of international arms control instruments to prevent the uncontrolled proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW), the Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons (the Forum) is co-hosting a regional seminar in Africa in Yaoundé, Cameroon together with the National Assembly of Cameroon. The international instruments in focus at the regional seminar are the United Nations Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects (UN PoA) in relation to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the United Nations Security Council resolutions on Women, Peace and Security (WPS).
The seminar will be held on 21-22 June and is entitled “Connecting the Dots: Enhancing Implementation of the Women, Peace & Security, UN PoA and 2030 Agendas – through increased parliamentary engagement and action in international processes”. It is financed by the generous support of the United Nations Office of Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) Trust Facility Supporting Cooperation on Arms Regulation fund (UNSCAR).
To guide and support parliamentary action for the universalisation and implementation of the aforementioned instruments, the results of the discussions of the seminar will be incorporated into a revised regional Parliamentary Action Plan, with specific attention to the WPS perspective. The conclusions of the seminar will also be presented at a side event by the Forum and the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs at the Eighth Biennial Meeting of States (BMS 8) on the UN PoA on 27 June-1 July.
