The seminar will consist of two parts, part 1 is entitled “Connecting the dots: Enhancing Implementation of the Women, Peace & Security, United Nations Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons (UN PoA) and 2030 Agendas- through increased parliamentary engagement and action in international processes”. Part 1 will be realised on 8 June and is taking place within the Forum’s project financed by the United Nations Office of Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) Trust Facility Supporting Cooperation on Arms Regulation (UNSCAR). The conclusions for this part are planned to be presented at a side event at the sidelines of the Eight Biennial Meeting of States on the UN PoA on 27 June-1 July.

Part 2, which is taking place on 9-10 June, is entitled “Reducing threats to international security: Mobilising parliamentarians from Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean and Middle East to strengthen global parliamentary action for enhanced universalisation and implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty”, it is financed by the generous support of Global Affairs Canada.

The seminar is targeting parliamentarians, including women parliamentarians from all AIPA member countries, as well as Timor-Leste, and aims to increase parliamentary engagement, participation and action for the aforementioned international frameworks to limit the uncontrolled proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW). The seminar will also serve to identify parliamentary priorities and recommendations to be condensed into updated thematical regional Parliamentary Action Plans for Asia, with specific attention to the Women, Peace and Security perspective.
