NOW AVAILABLE IN FRENCH & SPANISH: POLICY STATEMENT ON THE ROLE OF PARLIAMENTARIANS FOR THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE 2030 AGENDA, IN A CHANGING WORLD

In response to the challenges the COVID-19 pandemic poses to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Board of the Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons (The Forum) previously adopted a Policy Statement encouraging parliamentarians to continue to pursue actions to reduce violence caused by the uncontrolled proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW). The “Policy Statement on the Role of Parliamentarians for the Achievement of the 2030 Agenda, Goal 16.4 in a Changing World affected by COVID-19” has now been translated for the benefit of Spanish and French speakers.

The pandemic has contributed to a more unstable world by exacerbating economic hardships and conflicts. Hence, the pandemic is jeopardising the progress made towards the achievement of the 2030 Agenda. Stressing that peace and security is an indivisible and mutually reinforcing aspect of sustainable development, the Forum calls on parliamentarians to prevent uncontrolled flows of SALW as an integrated part of the global effort to build back better.
