THE FORUM’S NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2021 IS NOW OUT

The Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapon’s (the Forum) Newsletter is now out! The Newsletter details the Forum’s work in the past months, as well as our ongoing projects and plans for 2022. Do you want to learn more? Please find the Newsletter here: https://bit.ly/3ssciGs

Key highlights include:

  • Within the Forum’s “Connecting the Dots”-project, financed by United Nations Trust Facility Supporting on Arms Regulation Fund (UNSCAR), the Forum organised a regional webinar for Africa with a thematic focus on the UN Programme of Action on Small Arms and Light Weapons (UN PoA) and the 2030 Agenda in relation to the on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda on June 24. Conclusions from the webinar were presented on July 29 at the Forum’s side event at the Seventh Biennial Meeting of States (BMS 7) on the UN PoA.
  • The Forum also hosted a side event at the side lines of the Seventh Conference of State Parties (CSP7) to the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) on September 3 highlighting the importance of Parliamentary action to enhance the universalisation and implementation of the ATT. In addition, for the first time, the Forum delivered a statement at CSP7 on the topic.
  • The Forum was invited to attend the 143rd Assembly of IPU in Madrid, Spain, on November 26-30, 2021. At the Assembly, the IPU´s Governing Council took an affirmative decision on the Forum’s request for Permanent Observer Status to the IPU. The approval of the Forum’s Observer Status is vital as it allows for closer cooperation with the IPU and facilitates the outreach and work with parliamentarians.
