17 sep THANK YOU FOR JOINING OUR SIDE EVENT AT THE 7th CONFERENCE OF STATES PARTIES (CSP7) TO THE ARMS TRADE TREATY (ATT) – THE FINAL REPORT IS NOW AVAILABLE
The Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons (the Forum) would like to extend its sincere gratitude to all participants who joined our side event at the side lines of the CSP 7 to the ATT on September 3 “Parliamentary action to enhance the universalization and implementation of the ATT, and for the eradication of the uncontrolled proliferation of SALW”. The Forum also wishes to express its warm gratitude to all panellists who shared their vital expertise.
At the side event, parliamentary recommendations to enhance universalization and implementation of the ATT and to prevent the uncontrolled proliferation on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW), linking to the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) and the Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) Agendas were highlighted, including the importance of:
- Strengthening the MPs’ legislative, oversight and awareness-raising actions to bridge the gap between international arms control instruments and national and regional implementation levels.
- Promoting joint efforts of stakeholders from the executive and legislative powers of states and civil society organisations in following the provisions stipulated in the ATT to prevent the diversion of SALW, eradicate their illicit trade, and reduce human suffering globally.
- Adopting policies pursuing gender equality in national institutions and ensuring women’s equal participation in decision-making and peace and security processes, including in parliaments as well as national arms transfer control authorities in order to reinforce the synergies between the WPS Agenda and the ATT.
Would you like to learn more about the discussion and conclusions from the side event? Welcome to read our newly released report here.
